How to wear your hair when wearing a hat

Of all fashion accessories, hats are the most personal and most powerful. They are on the most important, the most visible and the most photographed part of the body. Hats frame the face, and make one walk tall; they cause heads to turn and compliments to follow.
Hats instantly draw attention to your hair - It is important that your hair and hairstyle is impeccable!

How to wear your hair when wearing a hat?
The real answer to that question is that it is completely your choice!

It can depend on your hair length, volume of hair, the type of hair you have and the occasion. The only hair style that you cannot have when wearing a hat is a very high bun on top of your head as the hat won’t sit right. Other than that, the choice is yours!

When I’m deciding how to wear my hair, I usually take the occasion into consideration first.

If I am going to an outdoor event (for example, a day at the races), I will usually wear my hair up. My hair is naturally thick (and fuzzy!) – It doesn’t react pleasantly to wind and rain!

If I am going to an indoor event (a wedding or a fashion show), I take full advantage of wearing my hair down. I will usually straighten it or loosely curl it and push it to one side (the opposite side of the hat)

Another question that I get asked often is which side of your head to wear the hat on.
I recommend to wear the hat on the side of the head where your hair parts.
For example, my hair parts on my left hand side so I wear the hat on my left hand side. You tend to have fuller hair on the other side of your head (in my case, it's my right hand side), so it is nice to 'show this off'!

When a client is ordering a hat from me, I always advise which side to wear the hat on. Another great person to turn to for advice is your hairdresser. My sister is a hairdresser and gets asked these questions all of the time so never be afraid to ask!

For this photoshoot, I wore this black and cream dress from Kabuki Boutique.
One of the first things I look at with dresses is the sleeves. I fell in love with the bell sleeves and lace detail - I thought it would be fab with this hat!

What are your thoughts on hairstyles and hats? Do you prefer to wear your hair up or down?
(This picture says it all, hehe!)
