In the world of fashion, neutrals are the field for playing it safe. My usual rule of thumb is when wearing neutrals, to mix them with other colours. Neutral colors in fashion are black, white, beige, khaki, certain grey, browns and so on. The main characteristic of neutral colours in fashion is that they go with anything.
However.. Sometimes.. It’s nice to just stay neutral!
Staying neutral can also be a little boring so here are some of my tips for spicing it up!
1) Wear Neutrals in great fabrics with different textures.
For this post, I have mixed a shiny silk top with a matt skirt and sparkly shoes. All these items are neutral in colour but completely different in texture. The compliment eachother to complete the outfit.
2) Wear different coloured neutrals
You can see from the pictures my top is a light beige colour, my skirt is a darker beige with a cream pattern and my hat is creamy/nude. There are a few different colours going on here which add excitement to the outfit. If the hat, top and skirt were all made from the one colour, it would be a little boring?!
3) Add a statement hat
When you are wearing a neutral outfit, you immediately have the freedom to go as crazy as you want with your hat!
These pictures were taken at an indoor event so I couldn’t go too crazy.
However... For a Wedding or a Ladies Day at the Races, you could easily add an oversized disc with tons of flowers & feathers!
What do you think of neutral colours? Do you like wearing all-neutral outfits? What tips do you have when it comes to wearing only neutrals?
