Ladies day at Royal Ascot

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all having a great week.
Yesterday I went to Ladies Day at Royal Ascot. As usual in Ascot, the style was incredible. Ladies were dressed in beautifully coordinated outfits. Bright colours, elaborate hats and crazy hair colours (believe it or not) were definitely on trend this year!

Royal Ascot is different to many other race courses as they have quite a strict dress code.

Ladies must wear skirts of a modest lenght (i.e. to the knee or longer). Dresses and tops should have straps of one inch or greater (no strapless dresses or halternecks). Hats must be worn (must have a base of 4 inches or greater)

Men must wear a waistcoat and tie (no cravat) and a black or grey top hat. (Top hats must not be customised in any way, for example, you couldn’t put a colour ribbon on the hat)

All sounds a little crazy but it’s something different so I had great fun choosing my outfit!

I left choosing my outfit to the last minute (as usual). After trawling through a few shops in Dublin last weekend, I came across a little boutique on South William Street (at the back of Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre) called ‘Allicano’.

I was immediately drawn to the shop as they had fabulous silk kimonas in their window display. I tried on this cream skirt and red top first and completely fell in love. The fabric in the top is soft and slinky – very comfortable to wear. They actually design and make all of the clothes in the boutique. Both the skirt and top can be made in many different colours (I spotted the skirt in a gorgeous cobalt blue)

The staff are so friendly and helpful, I definitely recommend popping into them if you’re in Dublin soon!

For my hat, I decided to go big and bold! I love large hats with lots of detailing so for this occasion, I went with a large cream hat made from sinamay. I used beautiful red silk fabric for the swirls, large red roses and hundreds of bubbling pearls.

It’s a great day out, I definitely recommend going at least once in your life! I hope you enjoyed reading this blog post and seeing some of my snaps from the day!
